At the same time, it helps absorb water during heavy rains helping with flooding.
The use of biochar acts as a filter; improving water quality, reducing pollution and harmful chemicals, in a measurable way.

An American company based in Florida and expanding throughout the Southeast, Sunshine is committed to being a truly sustainable business that is both profitable and beneficial for people and the planet. Rooted in community, dependability, environmental and social responsibility, Sunshine aims not only to divert organic waste and transform it into valuable compost (Black Gold), but also to educate and foster a community that thrives for generations to come.
The United States faces a significant food waste problem, with organic and food waste filling up to 30% of the nation's landfills, contributing to the release of harmful methane gas. Sunshine helps businesses, municipalities, farmers, ranchers, and landowners effectively divert their organic waste in a climate-smart manner.
Sunshine collaborates with landscapers, farmers, and forest owners to reintroduce compost to working lands, ensuring its beneficial use. Additionally, Sunshine is dedicated to enhancing our community by donating compost to food deserts, churches, community parks, and gardens, which helps improve air quality by sequestering carbon when compost is applied to working lands.
Transforming waste into usable soil amendments brings economic benefits to landowners, including lower crop production costs, improved garden yield and quality, and societal advantages such as reduced landfill space, job creation, healthier food production, and a regenerative outlook.
Sunshine Compost received a $4.9 million grant from the USDA to expand its composting efforts.
